[Updated 1/11/18]
Approaching the end of the year, I find that my brain is just beginning to start functioning normally again (normal, for me) after having been down with an exhausting cold that struck just before Christmas. It wiped out my holidays, but I’m happy to be feeling mostly better again.
The first thing to deal with after coming out of this mental haze, is some information I just received on a new international ship modeler’s conference, which is being put together to take place in Rochefort, France from October 18th through October 21st.

Photo borrowed from Michael and Pam’s Travel. Click image to visit their site. Apologies for the mishmash of photos. This is the best I could quickly muster up as someone who knows nothing about Rochefort, France!
By the looks of things, this will be somewhat similar to the Nautical Research Guild Conference that’s held in various in the U.S. every year, but this event is completely independent of the NRG. In fact, the person I’ve been in touch with in France, who is one of the coordinator of this event, had never even heard of the NRG.
Their goal with this is to be a truly International event, with 100 high quality model ship builders in attendance. From what I see so far, it’s on track to be a very exciting event. There are reportely already 100 ship modelers who have expressed a desire to participate. Many are from France, but half are coming from abroad, from Japan, Germany, Russia, Spain, Italy, and Belgium.
There appears to be a lot of things to do at this event: Visit to the Navy Dockyard, Navy Museum, Royal Rope Factory, Navy History Archives, Naval Air Command Museum, and the reproduction frigate Hermione.
I could go on, but instead, here’s the english language program sent to me, and you can read the known details for yourself: Click to download the full pdf files.Programme en anglais
One nice thing compared with the NRG conference is that there is no registration fee and admission to the lectures is free. The only charges I’m aware of are normal fees for things like dinners, accomodations and for the tours.
For those interested in participating, here are registration forms that were also provided:
The files is in Microsoft Word’s DOCX format. If you need this is another format, please let me know.
Great! I have been last year in Rochefort. Saw Hermione replica! But the Conference in October seems to be realy great event. Nice to hear about it here. A great side anyway!
